Diesel Heater with Indirect Combustion 30.0 kW, STAHL SDH30i

The STAHL SDH30i is a diesel heater with indirect combustion, designed for heating medium to large spaces such as sports halls, production facilities, livestock farms, poultry houses, warehouses, tents, and similar premises.

Unlike direct combustion heaters, indirect combustion heaters are equipped with a flue that exhausts combustion gases outside the heated area.
This allows heating with diesel fuel without exhaust gases or unpleasant odours inside the room.

Another way to use the diesel heater without oxygen consumption or emission of combustion gases is to place the unit outside the room being heated and use a flexible air duct to deliver warm air inside.
Thanks to this, the diesel heater with indirect combustion can be used both for emergency and main heating in poorly ventilated areas where people stay for extended periods.

With a heating power of 30 kW, the heater is suitable for both primary and supplemental heating of large spaces up to 1229 m³.

In construction, this type of heater is used mainly for two purposes – temperature maintenance and drying.
When used for maintaining temperature, it can be positioned either inside or outside the room.
For drying, maximum efficiency is achieved when the heater is located inside the room.

In agriculture and livestock farming, the indirect diesel heater is an excellent solution for heating parts of animal or poultry farms.
The optimal setup is to place the unit outside the animal area (especially if ventilation is poor or there is high dust or fire risk) and connect an additional temperature sensor to maintain the desired indoor temperature.

When used in warehouses or agricultural storage, the heater can be placed inside and the built-in thermostat will maintain the desired temperature, eliminating the need for an external thermostat.

Maximum efficiency and heating speed are achieved when the heater is positioned inside the room, allowing recirculation of preheated air.

How the Indirect Diesel Heater Works

The main components of the heater are:

  • Combustion chamber

  • Flue (exhaust pipe)

  • Burner

  • Fuel nozzle

  • Electromagnetic valve

  • Fuel line

  • Fan

  • Electric motor

  • High-pressure fuel pump

  • Power cable clamp

  • Fuel tank

  • Control panel

When the diesel heater is switched on via the control panel, the electric motor drives both the fuel pump and the fan.
The fan supplies air for combustion and cools the outer surface of the combustion chamber.
The high-pressure fuel pump draws fuel from the tank and sends it through the fuel line and electromagnetic valve to the burner nozzle.
The nozzle atomizes the fuel, which ignites inside the combustion chamber via ignition electrodes.

During combustion, the outer surface of the chamber heats up, and the fan blows air over it, producing clean, warm air at the outlet.

The outer casing of the heater is made of durable sheet steel, protecting internal components from environmental influences, guiding the air flow, and serving as a thermal barrier.
Thus, even during prolonged operation, the housing does not overheat.

Combustion is controlled by precise electronics using a photocell that monitors the flame.
If any irregularities occur, the system automatically shuts down.

To reduce fuel consumption, the heater is equipped with a built-in thermostat, which switches off the burner once the set temperature is reached.
The temperature is adjusted via the electronic controller on the panel, featuring two LED displays — one showing the set temperature, and the other the current temperature.
The combustion chamber also features overheat protection.

The 56-litre fuel tank allows up to 17 hours of continuous operation on a single fill.
For easy transport and movement, the unit is equipped with large wheels.
